Armistice Day 11th November 2021

Dear GA families

I am writing to you to outline the school’s plans for remembering those we have lost to war, in all countries over the years.

As a community we recognise the importance of remembering those who have been lost and honouring their memories. We apply this remembrance to both civilians and military personnel, across the world, and in all wars. We recognise that a number of our families will have been affected by war, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to them.

On 11th November 2021, we will observe a two-minute silence at 11.00am, as an entire school community, using the KS3 courtyard area. This will be observed by all staff and students. We will then extend break time until 11.30am to ensure that the children receive an adequate break.

We will speak to all of the children about Remembrance Day, its purpose, and how to mark it respectfully in assemblies that week.

We also encourage students to wear their cadet uniforms if they wish to do so, including any students who attend cadet forces externally to the one we run at Gloucester Academy.

Students will also have the opportunity to donate, in school, to the Royal British legion through the poppy appeal, and to wear their poppies on their blazer lapel. More information available https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/

As a community we are committed to ensuring that all of our students receive not only a high quality academic education, but also a high quality education in their own personal development.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding these arrangements.

Yours sincerely

Mr N Nabarro

Deputy Headteacher
