Gloucester Academy

Our Ethos and Values

Our Ethos

At Gloucester Academy we pride ourselves on three core values; ambition, excellence and pride. Every second of every day we strive to enact our core values in order to work hard, and be kind and continue to climb our own personal mountain to the very best university and professions.

We are clear about what we want our school community to achieve...  the very best

Our Core Values

Ambition

Careers in Curriculum allows students to explore careers linked to their curriculum in every subject. The exploration includes, skill and qualification requirements, typical tasks and current Labour Market Information relating to a job sector.

In order for all students to climb their own personal mountain to the very best universities and professions they will need outstanding careers guidance. Career lessons are part of our curriculum and students use the UniFrog platform to learn about careers, apprenticeships and log their skills and achievements. All students have visits from external employers, who talk about the specific workforce area/career and explain how students can explore this particular pathway to this profession.

Pride

Developing pupils' characters, morals and values is at the heart of everything we do at Gloucester Academy. Equipping pupils with these skills ensures that they are able to succeed both now and in the future, ultimately supporting their climb up the mountain.

Therefore, to support pupils' climb it is important to promote enrichment, to praise the amazing things they do outside of lessons using their Ready for Learning Cards and push pupils to attain new Character Badges each week. By doing these three simple things, we are helping our pupils to become the best versions of themselves, and we are ensuring that they feel that sense of community and belonging here at GA.

Excellence

Students at Gloucester Academy are excellent, and they work hard. They value academic performance and understand its importance in their personal journey up the mountain to the best universities and professions.

Our excellence board displays dates of upcoming assessments, guidance on how to best prepare for these assessments and a celebration of those students who have positioned top in their year group for achievement or for progress. It is important that both achievements are celebrated together as both are equally academically impressive.

British values

At Gloucester Academy, we actively promote British values through our school vision, ethos, agreed rules, curriculum, and teaching. As such, we promote tolerance of, and respect for, people of all faiths (or those with no faith), cultures, and lifestyles.

We prepare children and young people positively for life in modern Britain by supporting them through our words, actions, and influence, not just within school, but also within the wider community.

Promoting our values

The government defines British values as:

  • Democracy
  • Rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those of different faiths.
