Gloucester Academy GCSE Results Day - Summer 2021

Dear Year 11

I trust you are all safe and well and have been able to prepare for your next steps in education whether that be preparing for college, sixth form or an apprenticeship.  Everyone at Gloucester Academy appreciates how difficult this time has been for you all and we cannot wait to see you soon as you collect your results.

I am writing to confirm that GCSE Results Day will be held on Thursday 12th August 2021. To ensure that we have enough time to talk to each of you about your next steps, we will be inviting students and parents to collect their results at specified times.

Below are the times which have been scheduled in alphabetical order according to your surname.

Surname Letter

Time

A-F

9:00 - 9.30

G-M

What if you are unable to collect the results on the day?

If you are unable to come into school and collect your results you can send a family member to collect your results for you. If you choose this option your family member will need to come into school with a form of identification and a signed letter from you giving them permission to pick up your results on your behalf. The letter will need to say that you have given permission for a named person to collect the results on your behalf and will also need to explain what your plans are for September. If your letter has any missing detail we will not be able to give the results out. If you have any questions on this please contact the exams officer ylloyd@gloucesteracademy.co.uk

If neither you or a family member can pick up your results you can request that your results are emailed to your school email address. You can have your results emailed to you after 1.00pm on Thursday 12th August. When you make your request for emailed results you will need to explain what your plans are for September in the request. Request should be made to the exams officer ylloyd@gloucesteracademy.co.uk

If no one is available to collect results and you do not want them emailed to you then results will be posted to you on Friday 13th August. A follow up phone call will be made to confirm your next steps in education.

What do I do when I pick up results?

When you collect your results, you will be asked to explain what your plans are for September. It would be useful to bring with you an offer you may have had for college, sixth form or an apprenticeship.

If you do not have any offers you will be able to speak to our careers advisor on the day or make an appointment for a phone call discussion later to ensure you have a plan to continue your education post 16.

Process for Awarding GCSEs – Summer 2021

I also want to take this opportunity to explain the process that Gloucester Academy has followed using the guidelines set out by Ofqual and the exam boards so as to calculate student grades. Until results are published in August, Gloucester Academy is unable to share any grades awarded to individual students.

The professional experience of teaching staff was deployed to make a fair and objective judgement of the grade they believe a student is most likely to have achieved had they sat their exams this year. Judgements were objective, ensuring that grading decisions for each student were based upon a holistic professional judgement which balanced different sources of evidence and data.

Step 1: For each student for each subject

  1. Teaching staff award a Teacher Assessment Grade based on evidence from:
  • Progress review data
  • Classwork
  • Non-exam assessment work
  • Participation in performances (where applicable)
  • Homework
  • Mock exams

Step 2: Accuracy and Review of Teacher Assessed Grades

Check for accuracy and review completed by the head of department/subject lead and the Senior Leadership team, which was undertaken in each subject area.

  1. Capturing and approval of this information was confirmed by the Head of Centre (Academy Principal) and Senior Leadership Team, ensuring that awarding body and Ofqual guidance in relation to the grading and ranking of students has been followed.
  2. Head of Centre declaration was signed and submitted to each awarding body.

I hope that you have an enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 12th August. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
