GA Response to Amber weather warning

Dear GA Families

As the temperatures are due to rise even higher at the start of next week, this has resulted in an met office 'amber warning of extreme heat’.

At GA we are very lucky to have a modern, recently built, school building, which is able to remain within a comfortable temperature to work, we also have large indoor spaces that offer protection from the heat.  Likewise, outside we have a newly installed canopied area providing extra shade outside.

From this Monday 18th July 2022, until further notice, we would like to temporarily amend our school uniform policy, giving students a choice to wear what they will feel most comfortable in.

  • wear the full school uniform as normal

or

  • wear the normal uniform, but have the flexibility to not wear the blazer, the jumper, or a tie. Students may also open the first button 'open collar' of their shirt

or

  • wear their GA PE kit, please make sure this follows the PE equipment policy

We will also be amending practical PE lessons to avoid excess activity in high heats which may cause risk.

As ever, students are encouraged to drink plenty of water, please send your child in with a clear water bottle which they can use in lessons.  No energy or sports drinks please.

I hope you will agree this will support students to be in school, learning, and enjoying the final week of term.

Yours sincerely

Mr J Heap
